A man who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on recently.
However, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member called the police again.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
