Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant prize-giving event draws close, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
